Welcome
J Bar 7 Ranch is located in Welch, OK, and began in 1988 when Mr. John T.L. Jones purchased a 6,200-acre historic ranch in Craig County, which at one time was all Cherokee Indian Nation Territory. The property was originally a part of Clear Creek Ranch that was put together by the late Mr. Raymond Pope, the person credited for developing the Brangus breed in 1949.
This historic ranch has hosted Angus and Brangus cattle for 58 years. The management of the property has only been shared by the late Mr. Jack Douglas for 25 years and Terry Hollan, the present manager for the past 33 years. Since 1988 the breeding of Brangus cattle has continued. In 1992 the breeding of top-quality purebred Angus cattle with the right genetics began.
In 2003 Mr. Jones joined in a partnership with ranch neighbor, Buford Ranches to create J Bar 7 Ranch LLC. Today the purebred program committed to excellence consists of 1,000 registered Angus cows and 500 registered Angus Plus and Red Angus cows.
The original base for the J Bar 7 Angus program started with the purchase of Sitz Angus and Stevenson Angus females along with the purchase of several top herd sires. Many leading AI sires are being used. With quality selection and breeding for functional cattle, J Bar 7 has developed an excellent product with proven genetics.
J Bar 7 bulls are annually placed on a development ration for 100 days at Wilroads Growyard. This is done to obtain performance and carcass data. Their average over the past three years for daily gain has been 5.3 lbs. with an average feed conversion of 4.7 lbs. of feed per pound of gain. Beef cattle average is between 6 and 7 lbs. of feed per pound of gain. We at J Bar 7 do not select for feed efficiency alone but include it with a balance of all genetic traits designed to have the potential for added $Values. Prior to 12 years ago all bulls were sold by private treaty. At that time, due to customer request, we began having an annual bull sale to offer all our bulls for sale at one time.
Our replacement females are selected on performance, fertility, and udder development, along with just plain cow sense. Due to herd building for top quality, J Bar 7 has not sold any females except for cull cows in 18 years. We plan to share our product of proven genetics in a female sale offering in the near future.
We at J Bar 7 Ranch look forward to assisting your program and its future beef production challenges.
